Thus, it is important for people to be able to understand scientists, so that we are not susceptible to misinformation, and so that we have a better understanding about the world around us and what theories are and aren’t worth engaging with. The ability to examine scientific ideas with understanding and without bias depends on scientific literacy--something we seek to promote by educating people about scientific terminology and practice, debunking conspiracy theories, and explaining the latest scientific innovations.
